Current Mood: Guilty

January 3, 2010

Yes, that is my gorgeous super waitress friend Leah serving us when Britt and I went to visit her tonight. We went to Baker's Square for some pie and to watch Leah at work! I got Oreo, Britt got some kind of Birthday Cake pie thing. I forgot the name, but it was delish. Afterwards we met up with Ryan and went to see "Law Abiding Citizen" at the budget theatre. More on that later...

Overall, good day. I woke up later than I should have for church, but I was successfully presentable and ready in 10 minutes. Afterwards was a day full of chilling, football, napping, etc. How can you go wrong with a day like that?

Honestly a little did go wrong today. I got into a argument with my sister (pre nap, post lunch) because apparently I was "being a brat." My dad was teasing me about my money saving skills, or lack there of, which is a usual taunt seeing as I spent my whole summer savings in the first few months of college. He's the one that is affected by my financial foolishness, seeing as now I must rely on him for, well, a lot. He said I should get a job, I said I'd be happy to if I got a car, he said bike or walk, I said the only place I could be employed within walking distance is Wal-mart, he said so what, I said no way, lah de dah jokes jokes, but then Hannah busted in with the whole "You are being stuck up." Of course I didn't agree with her at the time, and lightly stomped out of the room to a nap. After daddy checked to make sure I was okay, he always makes things better, I fell asleep. So thinking back on the occurrence I definitely do feel guilty. No, I am not going to go get a job at Wal-mart (I mean come on, it's next door to campus, everyone goes there all the time!) But I definitely am going to work on being more thankful for what I have than thinking about what I don't, as well as a mend my money managing mishaps. So thank you Hannah for the "check yourself" lesson today, and thank you for making me your "Top Chef" judge tonight between you and your friends after I got home from the movie (though entree number two's broccoli was borderline revolting.)

Another reason for feeling guilty... I got a call from one of my best friends back in Texas last night and soon to be roommate, Dalaine. We talked for over an hour and it was very exciting to finally get to catch up with her and laugh at our jokes that aren't really funny in real life (but to us they are hilar- good enough for me.) And while it was amazing to be able to talk and laugh again, she shared bad news. Our other best friend Catey, she's one year older, lives in an apartment with her brother Cory, who's our age, back in Austin. Cory's best friend, Tres, goes to UT and was always at their apartment last semester, as were we. (We pretend like we live there, too.) Anyways, Tres committed suicide two nights ago :( and Cory is the one that found him. He was in a closet and had shot himself in the mouth. No one knew why, no one expected it, Tres wasn't depressed and was always smiling. I still can't believe it and cried when I heard. I personally think that suicide is one of the most awful things possible. I get a terrible feeling in my stomach just thinking about it. Cory is in pieces, and Catey is not far behind him- Tres was like a brother to her. It made the movie we saw tonight particularly disturbing because there were a lot of murders. The news of the suicide is still fresh in my mind and watching people constantly getting killed just hurt to see. Our lives are so precious, they can be gone in an instant. It really makes me realize how thankful I am to have all my loved ones in my life, and that I don't get forever with them. Life is so short. Way too short for stupid fights over money, or wishing you had more clothes and things than you already do, or worrying about the stupid things I worry about on a daily basis. God is good, and everything happens according to His plan. Jeremiah 29: 11. R.I.P. Tres Jones

Just one more thing... Currently listening to "Do I" by Luke Bryan. I miss you Texas!
