Happy Baptismal Birthday to You! (Me)

January 5, 2010

Today was my baptismal birthday! I made sure that everyone knew that today was my baptismal birthday. I got a lot of responses like "Rachel, you would know when your baptismal birthday is." I guess it's just a usual thing in my family because we've lit the baptismal candle at the dinner table (as pictured) for everyone's baptismal birthdays for as long as I can remember. Following post dinner devo's we sing "Happy Baptismal Birthday To You!" part jokingly, yet part seriously. It's tradish. But aren't our baptismal birthdays something that should be celebrated? If you think about what baptism symbolizes- Holy Spirit is now a part of you/ part of God's family/ written in the Book of Eternal Life- it's definitely more significant than our annual day of our birth birthday and think how big of a shenanigan we make those... When's your baptismal birthday?

Today was a day that I almost froze to death. It was my first time running outside in a long time, well in Wisconsin at least. I was definitely not prepared for the weather layers wise and had to turn around at the 4 mile turn around instead of my anticipated 4 1/2. My mom's ipod is probably the only reason I was successful with those four miles as Taylor Swift, Dixie Chicks, John Mayer, Billy Joel, and Keri Hilson songs bumped into my ears. I honestly had to thaw out on the chair after I walked into the door before I could do anything else.

After a killer dinner of baked chicken, noodles, and corn I spruced up and met up with some friends at my high school alma mater's boys basketball game. I had to drag little Stephen to go with me, but it was one of those draggings where you know they want to go but you have to make it seem like you don't know, you know? I'm not sure if Steeph has gone to a game since he didn't play basketball anymore so I'm sure he was curious. Big sister duty of the day, check. After the game I went over to Megan's with the girls for secret santa gift giving festivities. It was good to catch up with Mr. Kraft in the den and talk about life as I wrapped Leah's present in the hilarious jean wrapping paper Megan graciously loaned to me. Too bad she couldn't come tonight so I could give it to her, sad story, but I'll see her soon enough. After that, I went over to Chelsea's where her, Melanie, and the guys went after the bball game to hang out. We watched an episode of True Life where the girls were addicted to shopping and it was fun to make fun of how ridiculous their antics were. Oh man. I definitely ended up staying chatting with Chels until in the 2's, which lead to a 4:30am fall asleep time. Speaking of ridiculous... I hate staying up that late! Where does the time go after midnight rolls around I'll tell ya!

Just one more thing... Sorry for the shallow post today. I feel like it was really schedule-ish. I'll work on that. (I'm just not in a very deep thinking mood right now, maybe that's why...)
